Frederic Amat

Published in 1976 by Die Galerie, this volume serves as a significant early monograph for the Catalan artist Frederic Amat. Emerging from the vibrant and experimental art scene of mid-1970s Spain, the book was conceived to document Amat’s transition from traditional painting into more diverse, multidisciplinary explorations. At this stage in his career, Amat was gaining attention for his tactile, organic approach to visual arts, often incorporating raw materials and rhythmic, primitive forms that bridged the gap between gestural abstraction and symbolic storytelling.

The publication reflects the aesthetic standards of Die Galerie during that decade, focusing on clean layouts that allowed Amat’s complex, often haunting imagery to command the page. By cataloging his foundational works and artistic philosophy, the book helped solidify Amat's reputation among European collectors and critics. It remains a key reference for understanding his early stylistic departure from the prevailing movements of the time, documenting the evolution of an artist who would go on to be celebrated for his work in theater, film, and monumental installation.
