From Shield to Storm

From Shield to Storm was published in 2001 by Authors Choice Press, an imprint of iUniverse that focused on self-published and print-on-demand works. The book is a collaborative effort between James F. Dunnigan and Austin Bay, serving as an analytical examination of the high-tech military capabilities and geopolitical landscape of the early 21st century. It was conceived as a follow-up to their previous collaborative work, A Quick & Dirty Guide to War, aiming to update readers on the post-Cold War evolution of defense strategy.

James F. Dunnigan, a noted military analyst and game designer, utilized his expertise in wargaming and logistics to provide the technical foundation for the book’s arguments. The authors sought to explain complex defense systems and global security threats to a general audience, emphasizing how technology had fundamentally altered the nature of conflict. Upon its release, it was regarded as a serious, if niche, contribution to the discourse on contemporary warfare, reflecting the analytical rigor Dunnigan is known for in his gaming and writing careers.
