Geschichte der protestantischen Theologie, besonders in Deutschland

Originally published in 1867, Isaak August Dorner’s Geschichte der protestantischen Theologie, besonders in Deutschland stands as a landmark work in the study of nineteenth-century German academic theology. Dorner, a prominent mediator theologian, authored this text during a period when the German intellectual landscape was intensely preoccupied with the intersection of philosophy and Christian doctrine. He sought to provide a comprehensive historical narrative that traced the development of Protestant thought from the Reformation through the mid-nineteenth century, emphasizing the movement's ongoing evolution and its philosophical rigor.

The Johnson Reprint edition is a scholarly reproduction intended to preserve Dorner’s dense, highly influential analysis for modern theological researchers and libraries. By making this exhaustive study accessible again, the publisher supported the continued examination of Dorner's unique methodology, which sought to reconcile traditional dogma with the critical spirit of his age. The work is widely regarded by historians of theology as an essential primary source for understanding the German intellectual tradition, valued more for its foundational research and clear organizational structure than for its stylistic ornamentation.
