Henni Alftan and Dike Blair

Published in 2021 by the New York-based press Karma, this volume documents a collaborative exhibition and dialogue between painters Henni Alftan and Dike Blair. The book serves as a record of their shared aesthetic inquiries, highlighting the intersection of Alftan’s precise, motif-driven compositions and Blair’s observations of mundane spaces and transient light. The publication functions as both a catalogue of their presented works and an exploration of the thematic resonances found between two distinct contemporary approaches to representational painting.

The design of the monograph reflects the minimalist and intentional sensibilities of both artists, prioritizing clarity and direct engagement with the imagery. By juxtaposing their paintings, the book frames a conversation about how domestic objects, architectural details, and captured environments are mediated through the act of looking. Received by the contemporary art community as a thoughtful contribution to the literature on figurative painting, it is valued primarily for its documentation of this specific pairing and the clean, archival aesthetic characteristic of Karma’s publishing imprint.
