Historia de la práctica de los ejercicios espirituales de San Ignacio de Loyola...

Published in 1946 by El Mensajero del Corazón de Jesús in Bilbao, this work by the esteemed Jesuit scholar Ignacio Iparraguirre serves as a comprehensive historical investigation into the practice and reception of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Iparraguirre, a central figure in 20th-century Jesuit scholarship, focused his academic life on recovering the original context and pedagogical evolution of these foundational meditations, writing this volume during a period when the Jesuit order was actively seeking to reconcile their traditional contemplative practices with the complexities of the mid-century modern world.

The book is characterized by the restrained, scholarly design typical of Spanish theological publishing during the post-war era, emphasizing clarity and archival accuracy over decorative aesthetics. It functions as a critical companion for practitioners and historians alike, aiming to provide a rigorous account of how the Exercises transitioned from a personal tool of transformation for Ignatius into a globally institutionalized methodology. It remains a respected reference for those studying the history of Ignatian spirituality and the intellectual history of the Society of Jesus.
