Hommage à Stanislaw-Ignacy Witkiewicz

Published in 1980 by Die Kunsthalle, this volume serves as a curated retrospective and tribute to the multifaceted Polish writer, painter, and philosopher Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz, commonly known as Witkacy. The work emerged from a period of growing international scholarly interest in his avant-garde theories of Pure Form and his tragic, prophetic visions of twentieth-century societal collapse, aiming to consolidate his visual and literary output for a German-speaking audience.

The design and editorial direction reflect the aesthetic sensibilities of late twentieth-century European museum catalogues, prioritizing archival clarity and academic rigor. By presenting his highly idiosyncratic portraits alongside critical essays, the publication sought to contextualize Witkacy not merely as an eccentric recluse but as a seminal figure of the European modernist movement whose radical aesthetic experiments prefigured much of post-war performance and absurdist art.
