Where it came from
Published by Taschen in 2002 as part of their celebrated Icons series, this volume serves as a compact yet comprehensive survey of the work of H.R. Giger. The book was produced to make Giger’s provocative and biomechanical aesthetic accessible to a broader audience, encapsulating the haunting synergy of flesh and machinery that defined his career, most notably his Oscar-winning designs for the film Alien.
The editorial direction emphasizes the visceral nature of Giger's airbrushed paintings and sculptures, offering a curated look at his recurring motifs and dystopian visions. Taschen designed the collection to function as an affordable retrospective, and it has since become a standard reference for enthusiasts of surrealist art and dark fantasy, widely praised for its high-quality reproductions that honor the intricate detail of Giger’s original dark compositions.
