Il Prognosticum astrologicum di fra' Tommaso Campanella per la "congiunzion magna" del 24 dicembre 1603 e l'inaugurazione dell'Accademia dei Lincei

This monograph by Gilberto De Angelis explores the intersection of Renaissance astrology and the intellectual foundations of the Accademia dei Lincei. It focuses on the 'Prognosticum astrologicum,' a text authored by the Dominican friar and philosopher Tommaso Campanella, which provided astrological interpretations regarding the Great Conjunction of 1603. The work serves as a historical analysis of how Campanella, a controversial figure of the era, utilized celestial events to advocate for political and scientific shifts at the dawn of the seventeenth century.

The publication is presented by IL Museo and serves as a contextual study of the early Lincean period, during which Federico Cesi and his associates sought to reconcile traditional hermetic and astrological traditions with the emerging empirical scientific method. De Angelis examines the text not merely as an artifact of occult belief, but as a lens into the intellectual atmosphere that preceded the formalization of the scientific revolution in Italy. It is intended for scholars interested in the history of ideas and the institutional beginnings of the oldest scientific academy in the world.
