Il sacerdote picco modesto Gio. Battista da Savigliano

Published in Turin in 1859 by G. Favale, this biographical work by Tommaso Abrate chronicles the life of Giovanni Battista, a priest from Savigliano characterized by his humility and modest lifestyle. The volume emerged during a period of significant social and religious transition in the Kingdom of Sardinia, reflecting the local interest in exemplars of pastoral piety and traditional clerical virtue within Piedmontese society.

The text serves as a specimen of 19th-century hagiographic literature, intended for a regional audience interested in the spiritual history of the Cuneo province. While the specific design reflects the utilitarian aesthetic common to mid-century Italian ecclesiastical printing, the work functions primarily as a documentary effort to preserve the memory of an obscure but influential local religious figure through the lens of Abrate's narrative style.
