Where it came from
Published in 1998 by the Comune di Bologna, this scholarly volume serves as a catalog and critical study dedicated to the work of Jacobus Rosetus, a 14th-century master of medieval illumination and manuscript painting. Produced under the auspices of the Musei civici d'arte antica and the Museo civico medievale, the book was intended to document and preserve the technical mastery and historical significance of an artist whose intricate style defined a specific epoch of Bolognese gothic art.
Eugenio Riccòmini, a distinguished art historian known for his extensive research on the artistic heritage of Bologna, authored the text to synthesize existing academic knowledge with new archival findings. The design of the publication emphasizes clear, analytical prose and high-quality reproductions, aiming to provide both experts and enthusiasts with an authoritative reference point for studying the development of miniature painting within the medieval urban context of Italy.
