Johannes-Kommentare aus der griechischen Kirche

Joseph Reuss's 'Johannes-Kommentare aus der griechischen Kirche' was published in 1966 by Akademie-Verlag as part of the prestigious 'Die griechischen christlichen Schriftsteller der ersten Jahrhunderte' (GCS) series. This series has been a cornerstone of patristic studies since the late 19th century, aiming to provide authoritative, critical editions of early Christian texts that were previously difficult to access or poorly documented. The work serves as a scholarly compilation and commentary on the Johannine corpus, drawing from a variety of Greek patristic sources to clarify the theological and historical evolution of early church doctrine.

The volume reflects the rigorous philological approach characteristic of the GCS series, which seeks to preserve the intellectual heritage of the Greek Church Fathers. Reuss’s editorial work involved the painstaking synthesis of fragmented Greek manuscripts, translating them into a coherent academic resource. Upon its release, the book was received primarily within the professional community of theologians, historians, and classicists, who valued it for its meticulous attention to textual transmission and its contribution to the understanding of how the Gospel of John was interpreted by influential figures in the Eastern tradition.
