Written in Danzig, the work serves as an intellectual defense of Hevelius's meticulous telescopic observations against competing theories regarding the appearance of Saturn. At the time, astronomers were struggling to resolve the planet's changing shape, which appeared to bulge or sprout 'arms' due to the limitations of 17th-century optics.
