Jürgen Habermas

Published in 2002 as part of the SAGE Masters of Modern Social Thought series, this volume was commissioned to provide a comprehensive and accessible entry point into the complex philosophical framework of German social theorist Jürgen Habermas. David M. Rasmussen, a noted scholar of critical theory, was selected to distill Habermas's extensive body of work, ranging from his early studies on the public sphere to his later explorations of communicative action and discursive democracy.

The book is characterized by a structural approach that situates Habermas within the broader tradition of the Frankfurt School while addressing his unique contributions to contemporary political and moral philosophy. In the context of academic publishing at the turn of the millennium, the work was designed to assist students and researchers in navigating Habermas's dense prose. It received recognition as a reliable secondary source for its clear synthesis of the tension between modernism and post-modernism, remaining a staple in political science curricula.
