Where it came from
Published in 2021 by the Tokyo Fuji Art Museum, this catalog was released to accompany a specialized exhibition exploring the intersection of fine art and high fashion. The title, which translates to 'Paintings of Dresses, Dresses of Paintings,' reflects the museum's curatorial focus on how historical portraiture and the evolution of textile design have mutually influenced one another throughout the centuries.
The publication serves as both a scholarly record and a visual guide, featuring high-resolution reproductions of European and Japanese artworks alongside detailed commentary on the garments depicted. Designed with a focus on archival clarity, the book was received by art historians and textile enthusiasts as a thoughtful examination of the sartorial elements that often define the stylistic period of a painting, bridging the gap between decorative arts and classical portraiture.
