Where it came from
Published in 2004 by Grupello, Klaus Rinke: gemacht gedacht serves as a comprehensive retrospective documentation of the artistic career of Klaus Rinke, a foundational figure in German conceptual and performance art. The book was produced to coincide with his long-standing pedagogical influence, particularly his tenure at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, where he mentored a generation of students in the intersection of sculpture, performance, and temporal art.
The design of the volume reflects Rinke's minimalist and structural approach to art, utilizing a clear, objective layout to catalog his photographs, objects, and performance documentation. It was intended not merely as a retrospective catalog, but as a conceptual extension of his 'gemacht' (made) and 'gedacht' (thought) philosophy, which emphasizes the cognitive processes underlying physical artistic creation. The work was received by the art community as a vital archival resource that solidified his legacy as a pioneer of the European avant-garde.
