La Basilica di San Vitale a Ravenna e il Mausoleo di Galla Placidia-The Basilica of San Vitale in Ravenna and Mausoleo of Galla Placidia

This volume is part of the Mirabilia Italiae series published by Franco Cosimo Panini, an editorial project established to document Italy's most significant UNESCO World Heritage sites with unprecedented detail. Commissioned to provide a comprehensive scholarly survey of two of Ravenna's most important early Christian structures, the book serves as a visual and historical record of the Byzantine mosaics that define these monuments. The production reflects the publisher’s long-standing dedication to high-quality art history documentation, utilizing professional photography and rigorous academic research to capture the intricate details of the sixth-century architectural and decorative program.

The text, authored by Gianfranco Malafarina, contextualizes the historical significance of San Vitale and the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia within the broader scope of late antique art. The design of the book emphasizes a balance between archival-quality visual plates and analytical essays, intended to serve both as a coffee-table reference for art historians and as an accessible guide for students of classical architecture. Upon its release in 2008, the volume was received as a quintessential resource for those studying the influence of Eastern Roman aesthetics on Italian religious architecture.
