Leandro Fernández de Moratín

This volume on Leandro Fernández de Moratín is part of the Letras Hispánicas collection published by Cátedra, a series established in 1974 that has become a cornerstone for academic study of Spanish literature. Giuseppe Carlo Rossi, a distinguished Hispanist, authored this critical work to provide a rigorous contextualization of Moratín, one of the most significant Spanish playwrights of the 18th century, whose work bridges the gap between neoclassical ideals and the burgeoning romantic sensibilities of his era.

The Cátedra edition was designed to serve scholars and students by balancing scholarly commentary with accessible formatting. The series is widely respected for its consistent approach to critical apparatus, ensuring that the historical and literary significance of authors like Moratín is preserved through meticulous annotation. Since its inception, the collection has been regarded as a standard authority in university curricula across the Spanish-speaking world for its commitment to preserving classical texts.
