Manfred Sihle-Wissel, Ausstellung zur Verleihung des Edwin Scharff-Preiser 1972, Kunsthaus Hamburg, October/November 1973

This exhibition catalog was produced in 1973 to document the retrospective exhibition held at the Kunsthaus Hamburg honoring sculptor Manfred Sihle-Wissel. The exhibition was organized following his receipt of the prestigious Edwin Scharff-Preis in 1972, an award established by the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg to commemorate the work of the German sculptor Edwin Scharff. The volume serves as a significant record of the artist's mid-career output, capturing a pivotal moment where his transition toward abstract, rhythmic bronze forms received formal civic recognition.

The publication functions primarily as a curated survey of Sihle-Wissel's sculptural practice, featuring detailed photography and documentation of his work during the late 1960s and early 1970s. Designed as a standard museum exhibition catalog of the era, the layout emphasizes the stark, tactile quality of his bronze pieces against the minimalist architecture of the Kunsthaus. At the time of its release, the catalog was received as an essential reference for local art historians and admirers of the North German modernist tradition, providing necessary context for the artist's contribution to post-war public sculpture.
