Where it came from
Manfredi illustratore was published by Passigli in 1991 as a comprehensive survey of Alberto Manfredi's work as a book illustrator and engraver. Manfredi, a prominent figure in 20th-century Italian art, was deeply influenced by the traditions of etching and lithography, often imbuing his literary illustrations with a distinct sense of melancholic intimacy and precise structural elegance.
The volume was curated to showcase Manfredi’s collaborative spirit and his ability to interpret complex narrative themes through delicate lines and evocative compositions. As a retrospective, the book was well-received by scholars of contemporary Italian printmaking for its thoughtful documentation of how the artist bridged the gap between traditional fine art techniques and the evolving world of modern publishing.
