Where it came from
Published by Radius Books in 2019, this monograph serves as a definitive retrospective on the career of American painter Max Cole. The book captures the evolution of her minimalist aesthetic, characterized by meticulous, rhythmic lines and a profound engagement with meditative repetition. It was curated to provide a comprehensive look at how Cole's work bridges the gap between historical craft and contemporary abstract painting, situating her practice within the broader context of 20th-century minimalism.
The design of the volume reflects the quiet, disciplined nature of Cole's art. Radius Books worked closely with the artist to ensure that the reproductions of her monochromatic and nuanced color fields maintained their subtle depth. Upon its release, the publication was received as an essential scholarly resource, praised for its high-quality print production and the way it illuminates the spiritual and structural complexity inherent in Cole's lifelong dedication to the canvas.
