Meeresalgen von Helgoland

Meeresalgen von Helgoland was published in 1978 by the Biologische Anstalt Helgoland, a renowned marine research station located on the German archipelago of Heligoland. Authored by Peter Kornmann, a distinguished phycologist, the volume was intended as a foundational reference for the identification and ecological understanding of marine algae in the North Sea. It emerged from the institution's decades-long commitment to documenting the unique, biodiversity-rich flora of the region, providing researchers and students with a reliable, localized taxonomic guide.

The design of the work reflects the scientific rigor characteristic of the Biologische Anstalt Helgoland’s publications. Kornmann utilized detailed illustrations and precise descriptions to capture the morphological nuances of the algae, ensuring that the manual remained highly functional for field and laboratory use. Upon its release, it was well-received within the European botanical community, serving as an authoritative baseline for subsequent ecological studies and contributing to the preservation of knowledge regarding the fragile marine environment surrounding the island.
