Mexican Literature As World Literature

Published in 2021 by Bloomsbury Academic, this volume is part of the 'Literatures as World Literature' series, which seeks to reframe national literary canons within the context of global circulation and scholarly exchange. Ignacio M. Sánchez Prado, a prominent scholar of Mexican cultural studies, wrote this text to address how Mexican literature has been constructed, read, and canonized both domestically and internationally, challenging traditional nationalist frameworks that often define the field.

The book is designed as a critical intervention in the field of world literature, emphasizing the role of translation, market forces, and academic institutions in shaping the global perception of Mexican authors. Sánchez Prado draws on a wide range of materials—from the early 20th-century avant-garde to contemporary prose—to analyze the mechanisms that allow specific texts to attain a universal status. It has been received in academic circles as a foundational piece for students and scholars looking to navigate the complexities of literary globalization.
