Molly Make-Believe : (Eleanor Hallowell Abbott Classic Collection)

Molly Make-Believe was originally published in 1910, marking the breakthrough success of Eleanor Hallowell Abbott. The novella follows a bedridden man who hires a professional company to send him cheerful daily letters to cure his loneliness, only to fall in love with the woman writing them. The story captured the public imagination during the early 20th century for its whimsical, sentimental tone, which was characteristic of the popular magazine fiction of the era.

The 2014 edition published by CreateSpace is a modern reprint designed to make this public domain title accessible to contemporary readers. While the original release benefited from illustrations by Helen Alder Alden that emphasized the delicate, romantic aesthetic of the period, modern reprints like this one focus on digital preservation of the text. It stands as a modest piece of publishing history, reflecting the enduring appeal of Abbott’s lighthearted, imaginative prose.
