The Murder Most Unladylike series, which includes the titles listed, originated in 2014 when Robin Stevens launched her middle-grade mystery series set in a 1930s boarding school. The books center on two young detectives, Daisy Wells and Hazel Wong, whose adventures serve as both a homage to the golden age of detective fiction and a subversion of classic boarding school tropes. By framing the stories within the restrictive social hierarchies of Deepdean School for Girls, Stevens explores themes of friendship, identity, and moral agency through the lens of a classic whodunit.

The 2025 release published by Simon & Schuster represents a specific collection edition of this prolific series. Stevens worked closely with her editorial team to curate these volumes, maintaining the distinct atmosphere of her mystery-laden world while introducing her work to a new generation of readers. The series has been widely praised for its intricate plotting and its ability to engage younger audiences with the traditions of British crime literature, balancing the gravity of murder investigations with the quintessential nuances of school life.
