Where it came from
This publication was produced in 1980 by the Neue Galerie am Landesmuseum Joanneum in Graz, Austria, to document an exhibition focusing on contemporary Dutch painting and the sculpture of David van de Kop. The catalog serves as a snapshot of the European art scene at the time, capturing a period of transition as institutions sought to bridge the gap between traditional sculpture and emerging avant-garde practices in the Netherlands.
The catalog design reflects the minimalist and academic aesthetic favored by European gallery publications of the late twentieth century. By focusing on van de Kop’s structural, often monumental works, the book was intended to place his sculptural contributions within the broader context of Dutch artistic output. It was received primarily as a specialized resource for students and scholars interested in the regional movements of 1980s European modernism.
