Where it came from
Published in 1982 by the Institut néerlandais, this monograph serves as a comprehensive introduction to the work of the Dutch sculptor David van de Kop. Released during a pivotal period in his career, the publication documents the transition of his practice as he moved away from traditional medium-based sculpture toward the large-scale, often monumental architectural installations for which he became known throughout the Netherlands.
The volume was curated to provide insight into van de Kop’s specific aesthetic, which balanced industrial materials with an organic, sometimes primal sense of form. Designed to accompany the institute's exhibition of his work, the book contextualizes his sculptural philosophy within the broader framework of European contemporary art of the early 1980s. It remains a key reference for understanding his contribution to post-war Dutch sculpture.
