Opera. Con : De divinis institutionibus; De ira dei; De opificio dei vel de formatione hominis; De phoenice carmen. Ed : Johannes Andreae, bishop of Aleria. Add : Venantius Fortunatus

This edition of the works of Lactantius was printed in 1470 in Rome by Conradus Sweynheym and Arnoldus Pannartz. As the first printers to establish a press in Italy, their work in the Subiaco monastery and later in Rome was instrumental in introducing movable type to the Italian peninsula. The edition was prepared under the editorial guidance of Johannes Andreae, the Bishop of Aleria, who served as a primary scholar-editor for the firm's ambitious project of publishing classical and patristic texts.

The volume includes several key theological and apologetic treatises, such as 'De divinis institutionibus' and 'De ira dei', alongside the poem 'De phoenice'. The typography reflects the humanist roman typefaces that the printers were pioneering, characterized by a transition away from the dense black-letter styles of Germany toward a clearer, more legible script favored by Italian Renaissance intellectuals. This publication remains a significant artifact of the early period of incunabula, marking the intersection of the Italian Renaissance interest in classical antiquity and the religious focus of the period.
