Paolo Portoghesi

Published in 1979 by Diagonale, this monograph documents the architectural philosophy and projects of Paolo Portoghesi, a pivotal figure in the Italian Postmodern movement. The volume was created to capture the intellectual transition of late 20th-century architecture, moving away from the rigid constraints of Modernism toward a more humanistic, historical, and pluralistic approach that Portoghesi championed through his writing and design work.

The book serves as both a retrospective and a theoretical manifesto, reflecting Portoghesi’s signature interest in the organic qualities of Borromini’s Baroque architecture reinterpreted for the contemporary era. It was received by the architectural community as an essential scholarly resource for understanding the theoretical foundations of the Strada Novissima exhibition at the Venice Biennale, which would follow shortly after, cementing the author's status as a leading intellectual in the global debate on postmodernity.
