Papers of John Adams, Volume 12, October 1781 - April 1782 (Adams Papers)

The Adams Papers project was initiated by the Massachusetts Historical Society in the 1950s to curate, edit, and publish the extensive correspondence and writings of the Adams family, one of the most prominent political dynasties in American history. Volume 12, covering October 1781 through April 1782, focuses on John Adams's diplomatic tenure in the Netherlands during the American Revolutionary War. It provides critical insight into his efforts to secure diplomatic recognition and financial loans from the Dutch, a pivotal period that bolstered the American cause following the victory at Yorktown.

The volume was published by the Belknap Press of Harvard University Press, maintaining the rigorous editorial standards established for this long-running historical series. The collection is designed for scholars and historians, featuring meticulous annotations that provide context for Adams's diplomatic challenges, personal reflections, and the complex European political landscape. It is widely regarded as an essential primary resource for understanding the intellectual and political foundations of the early American republic.
