Pierre-Joseph Proudhon, a Biography

This biography was originally authored by George Woodcock and first published in 1956. Woodcock, a prominent Canadian writer and anarchist intellectual, intended the work to provide a definitive, objective account of Pierre-Joseph Proudhon, the 19th-century French philosopher who famously declared that property is theft. The text explores Proudhon's complex influence on political theory and his pivotal role in the early socialist movement, aiming to demystify a figure often overshadowed by his contemporaries.

The 2021 edition published by Creative Media Partners, LLC, is a modern reprint of Woodcock's classic research. These editions are part of a broader archival effort to make historical non-fiction and political biographies accessible to contemporary scholars and students. By reproducing the original text, the publisher maintains the intellectual integrity of Woodcock's comprehensive narrative, ensuring that his nuanced examination of Proudhon's anarchism and social critique remains available in the modern literary landscape.
