Randy Newman / Bad Love

Published in 1999 by Alfred Publishing, this songbook serves as the official companion to Randy Newman's studio album Bad Love. The collection includes piano, vocal, and guitar arrangements for the record's tracklist, which marked Newman's first studio album of original material in over a decade. It reflects the period in his career when he was balancing his prolific work as a film composer with his return to satirical, character-driven songwriting.

The publication was produced during an era when songbooks were a primary medium for fans and musicians to analyze the sophisticated chord structures and harmonic progressions characteristic of Newman's work. The arrangements were designed to mirror the studio production, capturing the cynical wit and blues-inflected irony of tracks like 'The Great Nations of Europe' and 'My Country'. The book was received as a standard reference for enthusiasts of Newman’s distinctively American compositional style.
