Roland Fischer. Camino

Published in 2003 by the Centro Galego de Arte Contemporánea (CGAC), this monograph documents the photographic series Camino by the German artist Roland Fischer. The work was produced in conjunction with an exhibition at the institution, capturing Fischer’s distinct approach to architecture and landscape through his large-format, detached, and highly detailed visual language. The book serves as a vital record of his investigation into the aesthetic and structural qualities of the Camino de Santiago, reflecting his ongoing interest in how photographic framing alters the viewer's perception of monumentality.

Fischer’s design philosophy for the collection emphasizes spatial clarity and the tension between emptiness and form. By presenting these images in book format, the publication allows for a rhythmic progression through the sites depicted, encouraging a contemplative engagement similar to the act of pilgrimage itself. The work received critical attention for its clinical precision and its departure from traditional documentary photography, marking a significant entry in Fischer’s extensive catalog of institutional and architectural portraits.
