San Vitale

Published in Rome in 1930 by Casa edit. Roma, this monograph by Luigi Huetter offers a detailed examination of the Basilica of San Vitale in Ravenna. During this era, Italian scholarship frequently focused on the country's Byzantine architectural heritage to highlight its historical significance within the Mediterranean sphere. Huetter, a known scholar of Roman history and ecclesiastical architecture, sought to provide a focused academic survey of the sixth-century structure, specifically documenting its mosaic programs and structural evolution.

The publication is typical of the early 20th-century Italian tradition of art historical monographs, which combined formal analysis with historical context. Designed as a reference for students and architectural historians, the text emphasizes the technical and aesthetic mastery of the basilica's interior. While it remains a niche academic resource today, its value lies in its snapshot of mid-century restoration perspectives and the specific scholarly approach to Byzantine studies prevalent in Italy during the interwar period.
