Seitan 130-nen kinen, Fujita Tsuguharu ten

This exhibition catalog was produced by the Chūnichi Shinbunsha to commemorate the 130th anniversary of the birth of Tsuguharu Foujita, the celebrated Japanese-French painter who became a central figure of the School of Paris during the early 20th century. Published in 2016, the volume serves as a retrospective record of the major exhibition dedicated to his life and body of work, bringing together his distinctively fluid brushwork and synthesis of Eastern ink techniques with Western oil painting traditions.

The publication is designed to highlight Foujita’s iconic style, characterized by his signature milky-white skin tones and precise, calligraphic lines. It was curated for scholars and enthusiasts of modern art to provide a comprehensive look at the progression of his career from his early years in Montparnasse to his later religious and spiritual explorations. The catalog was well-received upon its release for its high-quality reproductions and its thoughtful curation of an artist whose legacy bridged disparate cultural aesthetics.
