Strawberry Shortcake and the Big Balloon Race Parker Brothers Story Book Strawberry Shortcake

Published in 1983 by Parker Brothers, this title arrived during the height of the Strawberry Shortcake phenomenon. Originally created by American Greetings in 1977 as a character for greeting cards, the property expanded rapidly into toys, television specials, and books throughout the early 1980s. This specific entry was part of a series intended to capitalize on the character's immense popularity by translating her whimsical world into narrative adventures suitable for young children.

The story was written by Elizabeth Winthrop, a prolific author known for her extensive body of children’s literature. The design reflects the visual language established by illustrator Muriel Fahrion, who provided the foundational character look. The book utilizes the iconic, saccharine aesthetic of the franchise—heavy on pastel colors and fruit-themed motifs—which was widely recognized at the time as a signature element of the character's merchandising strategy.
