Sword fighting in the Star Wars universe

Published in 2008 by McFarland & Company, this work emerged as part of the publisher's long-standing focus on academic and niche analytical examinations of popular culture. Author Nick Jamilla authored the text to provide a technical and historical breakdown of the lightsaber combat choreography seen throughout the Star Wars saga. The book serves as a bridge between fandom and martial arts theory, analyzing how George Lucas and his stunt coordinators integrated traditional swordplay techniques into the science fiction setting.

The design of the book reflects McFarland's signature scholarly aesthetic, prioritizing dense, informative content and analytical structure over standard fan-market glossy visuals. It attempts to categorize the various forms and styles of Jedi and Sith dueling, grounding them in real-world fencing principles. Upon its release, it was noted for its serious tone, appealing primarily to dedicated collectors and enthusiasts interested in the evolution of cinematic action sequences and the internal logic of the Star Wars franchise.
