Where it came from
Published in 2013 by Transcript Verlag, Tanz Film serves as a scholarly exploration of the intersection between dance and moving image media. Claudia Rosiny, a prominent researcher in the field of performative arts, crafted this text to bridge the gap between media theory and choreographic practice, focusing on how dance is mediated, perceived, and transformed when translated from a live stage to the cinematic frame.
The book is characterized by a rigorous academic approach, positioning itself within the broader context of visual studies and dance history. Rosiny’s design and editorial intent center on documenting the evolution of dance films, analyzing both the technological constraints of recording movement and the aesthetic intentions of choreographers. Upon its release, it was recognized within European academic circles as a foundational text for students and practitioners investigating the interplay between kinetic art and filmic representation.
