The Complete Works. Volume 5 (King Richard II / King Richard III / Othello / Romeo and Juliet / Taming of the Shrew / Tempest)

This volume is part of a 2006 reprint initiative by the 1st World Library - Literary Society, a publishing project dedicated to making classic literature accessible through affordable, standard-format print editions. Compiled in the early 21st century, this collection draws upon public domain texts to gather six of Shakespeare's most celebrated plays—ranging from the political intensity of the Richard histories to the tragic romance of Romeo and Juliet—into a single, utilitarian reader's edition.

The editorial philosophy behind this series emphasizes the preservation of the traditional Shakespearean canon without the heavy annotation or academic apparatus found in scholarly critical editions. Designed for students and casual readers who prefer a clean, straightforward experience, the aesthetic is minimalist and functional. The series received attention for its no-frills approach, providing a cost-effective way for libraries and private individuals to maintain a complete set of the Bard's work without the space requirements of multi-volume literary sets.
