The Lazarus War

The Lazarus War was published in 2015 as the debut entry in a gritty science fiction series by British author Jamie Sawyer. Emerging during a period of renewed interest in space opera, the novel centers on Conrad Harris, a soldier who controls remotely operated synthetic bodies to fight on the front lines of an interstellar conflict, allowing him to experience death repeatedly without losing his actual life. This premise served as a central exploration of transhumanism and the psychological toll of mechanized warfare.

The design and tone of the work were intended to provide a high-stakes, fast-paced military adventure that grounded futuristic technology in the visceral realities of combat. Jamie Sawyer sought to balance the spectacle of large-scale space battles with the internal isolation of a protagonist trapped in a cycle of resurrection. Upon its release, the book was received as a strong addition to contemporary military sci-fi, drawing praise for its innovative take on the remote-warfare subgenre and its ability to maintain tension through its high-concept narrative framework.
