Published in Paderborn in 1881, the Thomas-Lexikon was compiled by the German philosopher and scholar Ludwig Schütz to serve as an exhaustive reference guide to the complete works of Thomas Aquinas. During the late 19th century, the Catholic Church witnessed a significant revival of Thomism, known as Neo-Scholasticism, prompted in part by the 1879 encyclical Aeterni Patris of Pope Leo XIII, which advocated for a return to the teachings of Aquinas as a framework for modern philosophy and theology.
