Tommaso Calvetti e la rivoluzione piemontese del 1821

Published in 1870, this biographical work by Giovanni Battista Michelini serves as a historical account of Tommaso Calvetti, a figure involved in the Piedmontese revolution of 1821. The text emerged during the late nineteenth-century period of Italian historiography, a time when scholars were actively documenting the precursors to the Risorgimento to cement the narrative of Italian national unification. By focusing on Calvetti, Michelini aimed to preserve the memory of provincial revolutionaries whose roles in the failed constitutional uprisings were often overshadowed by more prominent political leaders.

The book was issued by the Tipografia dell'Associazione, reflecting the era's reliance on local presses and regional associations to circulate political and historical pamphlets. The design is characteristic of mid-Victorian era academic publishing, prioritizing textual density and didactic clarity over decorative ornamentation. While it did not reach the scale of a mass-market commercial success, it was received within intellectual circles as a dedicated contribution to regional history, helping to frame the 1821 uprising as a foundational struggle for constitutional reform in the Piedmont region.
