Verzamelde geschriften van M. W. Beijerinck ter gelegenheid van zijn 70 sten verjaardag

The Verzamelde geschriften van M. W. Beijerinck, published in six volumes by Martinus Nijhoff in 1921, was compiled to honor the seventieth birthday of Martinus Willem Beijerinck, the Dutch microbiologist and botanist widely regarded as one of the founders of virology. This collection was an initiative of a committee of scientists who wished to consolidate Beijerinck's extensive research into a singular, authoritative resource, ensuring his foundational work on nitrogen fixation, sulfate reduction, and the discovery of filterable viruses remained accessible to the international scientific community.

The editorial work was overseen by a dedicated committee that sought to organize Beijerinck's prolific output, which spanned decades of laboratory experimentation and theoretical contributions. The set is noted for its clinical, rigorous presentation, reflecting the academic standards of the era. It was received as a definitive reference work upon its release, securing Beijerinck's legacy and providing a comprehensive overview of his methodology for future generations of microbiologists.
