Virginia West Virginia Genealogical Data from Revolutionary War Pension and County Land Warrant Records

Published in 1992 by Heritage Books, this reference volume was compiled by Patrick G. Wardell to provide genealogists and historians with systematic access to records from the Revolutionary War era. It serves as a comprehensive index of pension applications and land warrant files specifically focusing on the regions of Virginia and West Virginia, filling a gap for researchers navigating the often fragmented bureaucracy of colonial and post-revolutionary land grants.

Wardell designed the work to act as a structured finding aid, organizing raw governmental data into an accessible format that simplifies the task of cross-referencing military service with land ownership. By cataloging primary source evidence, the book addresses the challenges of genealogical reconstruction in states where record-keeping was historically influenced by shifting boundaries and westward expansion. It is widely recognized in professional genealogical circles as a standard, utilitarian tool for primary source verification.
