W. R. Bion's Theories of Mind

Annie Reiner’s work serves as a clinical and theoretical exploration of Wilfred Bion’s psychoanalytic concepts, specifically focusing on his theories regarding the development of the mind and the nature of thought. Published in 2022 by Taylor & Francis as part of their academic and professional repertoire, the text bridges the gap between Bion’s often abstract and dense technical writing and the practical requirements of contemporary psychoanalytic practice. It is designed to assist clinicians and students in navigating the complex relationship between external reality and the internal psychic landscape.

The design of this volume reflects its academic purpose, emphasizing clarity and structural accessibility for readers navigating the foundational tenets of post-Kleinian theory. Reiner, a training and supervising psychoanalyst, draws upon her extensive background in the field to provide a framework that explains Bion’s notions of the 'container' and 'contained' alongside his theories on learning from experience. The work has been received as a focused, scholarly contribution to the literature, aimed at synthesizing difficult intellectual concepts into a pedagogical tool for modern therapeutic application.
