Watercolour painting with Karen Simmons

Watercolour Painting with Karen Simmons was published in 1993 by Batsford Ltd as part of a wave of instructional art literature designed to demystify the medium for hobbyists. During this period, the publisher focused on producing practical, project-based guides that prioritized accessibility for beginners, catering to the growing interest in weekend painting workshops and home-based creative instruction that defined the early 1990s.

Karen Simmons designed the text to provide a structured, step-by-step approach to the nuances of watercolor techniques. The book is characterized by its focus on practical exercises and clear, supportive pedagogical writing, a hallmark of the era's 'how-to' art books. It was received as a reliable, foundational resource for amateur artists seeking to build confidence in color mixing and brushwork, remaining a quiet staple in library collections of instructional art.
