Willi Dorner

Published in 2014 by Hatje Cantz, this monograph documents the body-based performance work of Austrian choreographer Willi Dorner. The volume serves as a comprehensive visual archive of Dorner’s practice, which frequently involves the placement of human bodies into urban architectural voids to challenge how viewers perceive public spaces and city structure. The book captures his signature 'Bodies in Urban Spaces' project, a series of interventions where dancers inhabit nooks, staircases, and street corners to disrupt the standard flow of pedestrian movement.

The publication was curated and photographed by Lisa Rastl, who has maintained a long-standing creative partnership with Dorner. Her design approach emphasizes the spatial relationship between the performer and the environment, utilizing crisp, documentary-style photography to reflect the temporary nature of the installations. Within the context of contemporary art and performance literature, the work was received as an essential reference for understanding the intersection of human kinetics and urban design, offering a permanent record of ephemeral physical art.
