Woordenboek Van Het Middeleeuws Latijn Van De Noordelijke Nederlanden

The Woordenboek van het Middeleeuws Latijn van de Noordelijke Nederlanden was initiated as an ambitious lexicographical project to document the specific usage of Latin in the Northern Netherlands during the Middle Ages. Compiled under the editorial guidance of Johanne W. Fuchs, the work emerged from the scholarly tradition of mapping the evolution of Medieval Latin, a language that served as the primary vehicle for administrative, ecclesiastical, and intellectual life in the region for centuries. The project sought to bridge a significant gap in historical linguistics by cataloging terms that were unique to the legal and cultural context of the Dutch territories.

Published by Brill Academic Publishers, the dictionary is respected for its rigorous philological approach and its contribution to the study of the transition between Late Latin and the vernacular. Designed for academic researchers and medievalists, the volume reflects an era of intense scholarly interest in localizing continental linguistic developments. Its design prioritizes clarity and comprehensive indexing, ensuring that students of the period could trace the nuances of administrative terminology within the medieval Dutch legal framework.
