Zeugnisse & Zeugen

Zeugnisse & Zeugen was published in 1982 by the Pawel-Pan-Presse, a small press founded by Wolfgang Jockusch in Herrsching am Ammersee. The collection features the writing of Wolfgang Weyrauch, a significant post-war German author known for his involvement in the Gruppe 47 and his efforts to address the trauma and moral complexities of the National Socialist era. His work often utilizes a sparse, fragmented style that reflects the existential uncertainty of the period.

As a product of a fine press, this publication emphasizes the aesthetic of the book as a physical object. The Pawel-Pan-Presse was recognized for producing limited, biblio-philic editions that prioritized artistic presentation, often collaborating with contemporary artists to provide visual context for the prose. The work serves as both a literary artifact of Weyrauch’s distinct voice and an example of the independent printing movement in West Germany during the early 1980s.
