Where it came from
Released in 1997 on the Cañada Discos label, 20 y 20 serves as a significant bridge between generations of Argentine music. The album features iconic folk singer Antonio Tormo, a foundational figure of the mid-20th-century 'música cuyana' movement, collaborating with the contemporary rock legend León Gieco. This project was conceived to honor Tormo's enduring legacy by reinterpreting his classic repertoire with a modern production sensibility, effectively introducing his influence to a younger audience during the 1990s.
The production process sought to preserve the heartfelt, populist spirit that defined Tormo's original hits while integrating Gieco’s socially conscious and folk-rock arrangements. By pairing a veteran artist who defined the golden age of Argentine radio with a prominent figure of the rock nacional movement, the album functioned as a cultural document highlighting the continuity of Argentine song. It was well-regarded by critics as a respectful homage that allowed Tormo to reclaim his place in the national consciousness late in his career.
