A Chance For A Dance

A Chance for a Dance was released in 1988 on the Italian label Innowo, serving as a significant entry in the discography of Dino Betti van der Noot. As a composer and pianist with a penchant for sophisticated, large-ensemble arrangements, Van der Noot was deeply embedded in the European jazz and avant-garde scene during the 1980s. This album reflects his interest in blending complex, orchestral jazz textures with more accessible, rhythmic foundations, capturing the experimental spirit that defined his work during this period.

The production of the record aligns with the broader aesthetic of independent jazz labels in Europe at the time, which frequently prioritized artistic vision over commercial trends. The design and presentation were intended to reflect the meticulous nature of Van der Noot's compositions, which were often praised for their layered arrangements and technical proficiency. While the album remains a niche release within the global jazz canon, it is consistently regarded by enthusiasts of European jazz as a testament to Van der Noot’s distinct ability to synthesize traditional jazz elements with contemporary orchestral movements.
